This paper aims to understand the results of the public power’s action over the “Complexo Hidrotermal e Hoteleiro”, Poços de Caldas city central area, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The “Complexo” is registered , since 1989, by the Constitution of the State of Minas Gerais, and was the former nucleus of the city, guided by the principles of thermalism as a healing environment. The research seeks to apprehend the effects of this action for the preservation of cultural heritage, in its materialness, such as in its cultural significance for the citizens’ collective memory and in the ways of using that place. The paper’s goal is to provide, through the theoretical-critical instrument of the restoration disciplinary field, an historic analysis of the “Complexo Hidrotermal e Hoteleiro”, of the many interventions, ways of use through the years and its results to this area of significance, today, on the collective memory of the city.
