Abstract

ARMA, Rosa. Right to housing as right to the city: The rehousing processes of inhabitants of Bairro da Cruz Vermelha and Bairro da Torre. CIDADES [online]. 2023, n.au23, pp.15-35.  Epub Oct 09, 2023. ISSN 2182-3030.  https://doi.org/10.15847/cct.29273.

Starting from the report on the rehousing processes of residents of Bairro da Cruz Vermelha (social housing neighbourhood in Lisbon) and Bairro da Torre (self-produced neighbourhood in Greater Lisbon), we reflect on the participatory approach to rehousing processes of vulnerable communities, committed to ensuring their Right to Housing and Place, as described by Borja, who inscribes the Right to Housing into the Right to the City. The report unfolds through the ‘voice’ of the study subjects, who expressed their perceptions and desires in interviews, as well as in the community performance Mágua di Nôs Partida (Bairro da Cruz Vermelha) and in the most recent participatory photography process with children from Bairro da Torre.

Keywords : right to housing; right to the city; vulnerable social groups; participatory approach.
