This study proposes a reflection on the importance of the valuation of the African languages for the development of Africa, trying to discuss how colonial linguistic politics took part in the exploration and retardation of the PALOP’s development. From this research, the following conclusion was reached: it is important to seek solutions for the African continent in order to bring benefits that will help achieve their economic, political and cultural independence. In this sense, it is important to take advantage of the linguistic resources available to establish trade relations between African countries, but for this, Africans themselves must take the initiative to value, preserve and expand resources and possibilities, in order to raise the low self-esteem that affects them. For that purpose, local language education is paramount for advancing strides towards development.
