TIMBANE, Alexandre António y VICENTE, José Gil. O plurilinguismo em Moçambique: debates e caminhos para uma educação linguística inovadora. RILP [online]. 2017, vol.31, pp.89-110. Epub 28-Jul-2021. ISSN 2182-4452. https://doi.org/10.31492/2184-2043.rilp2017.31/pp.91-112.
Mozambique has a single official language – Portuguese – protected by the Republic Constitution (2004). In our view, language is the social part that is deposited virtually in the brains of individuals belonging to a linguistic community. The research therefore proposes to study and evaluate attitudes in the conception and representation of languages in the space where they occur. In addition, it is also our intention to discuss ways to overcome difficulties in using the variety of Mozambican Portuguese, mainly in the school. The fact that the country’s multilingualism influences the formation of Mozambicanisms, which constitute an identity lexicon of Mozambican Portuguese, is added to the discussion. This lexicon reflects the Mozambican sociolinguistic reality and the school must pay attention to the phenomena of linguistic variation and change that are manifested in the Mozambican media, literature and society in general. We argue, therefore, that Mozambicanism is not an error, but rather the formation or constitution of a variety in use.
