COUTO, Hildo Honório do  e  COUTO, Elza Kioko N. N. do. Ecologia das relações espaciais: as preposições do crioulo guineense. RILP [online]. 2017, vol.31, pp.175-206.  Epub 28-Jul-2021. ISSN 2182-4452.  https://doi.org/10.31492/2184-2043.rilp2017.31/pp.177-208.

The main objective of this essay is to analyse the prepositions of the Portuguese Creole of Guinea-Bissau and Casamance (south of Senegal), showing that, as Bernard Pottier used to say as of the second decade of 20th century, prepositions are originally spatial. Temporal relations are derived from spatial relations whereas notional (abstract) relations are derived from both. The theoretical model used in this analysis is the young discipline Ecolinguistics, more specifically, its Brazilian version called Ecosystemic Linguistics. Ecosystemic linguistics includes the ecology of spatial relations, of which spatial prepositions a protypical examples. Using this model it is possible to explain even some uses of prepositions that we, Occidentals, consider strange. This is the case of examples such as lebri sai na si koba (the rabbit came out of its burrough). The model also explains why na (in, on, at) is the prepsition par excellence (protypical), despite the fact that the most frequent is di (of).
