As a set of theories that analyzes the political, philosophical, cultural and literary implications left by the colonizers in the colonized countries, adopting a critical perspective and a combative practice against them, the postcolonialism presupposes the occurrence of a literary production, which privileges the culture of all those who have been colonized by European nations. In Portuguese-African literature, following the perspective of postcolonialism, the woman is represented as someone free from taboos and impositions by male power, and assuming a role of subject of its own history. Therefore, this article analyzes two short stories by Mia Couto (“O perfume”, in Estórias abensonhadas and “O cesto”, in O fio das missangas), from the theoretical perspective of Postcolonial Studies, highlighting the role of women is this short stories.
