Introduction: The article discusses Art Education at Mindelo Internacional School of Arts (M_EIA), created in 2005, based on the applied research conducted by the school as a nucleus of research. A methodological tool adopted consisted of a analysis of the actors´ discourse inserted in the context of the institution and its surroundings. In addition, the use of several documentary sources, such as the school's pedagogical project, teaching programs, field notes, etc., implies an in-depth analysis of the context in question, as supposed in Case Studies. The main theoretical frameworks of the research are Atkinson (2008) and Mouffe (2014). The study concluded that M_EIA plays a prominent role in the country as the institution approaches Art Education from its social and economic issues. On the other hand, the operational plan tends to concentrate decision-making in the hands of its main leaders, an aspect that reveals a need for improvement of the democratic practices in the school.
