Abstract
FAZENDA, Maria José. Do desenvolvimento da dança teatral em Portugal no pós-25 de abril de 1974: circunstâncias, representações, encontros. RILP [online]. 2020, vol.38, pp.101-127. Epub Mar 21, 2021. ISSN 2182-4452. https://doi.org/10.31492/2184-2043.rilp2020.38/pp.101-127.
Theatrical dance in Portugal attests to a remarkable development following the April Revolution of 1974. In the new scene, three aspects stand out: the redefinition and expansion of the Ballet Gulbenkian’s repertoire, in which the choreographer Vasco Wellenkamp acquires visibility and Olga Roriz’s dance emerges; the foundation of the National Ballet Company; the diversification of aesthetic orientations and independent artistic projects within the so-called New Portuguese Dance. In this paper, I intend to understand, in a articulated way, what conditions favor the growth of dance in Portugal, the diversification of initiatives and aesthetics, and what people's relationships instigate or propitiate them, in terms of the articulation of these three domains - conditions, representations and encounters - such as it is formulated by the social scientist Steven Vertovec (2015), in the scope of studies on diversity.
