The Portuguese arrived in Guinea-Bissau through the colonization process. From then on, he started the process of variation and change resulting from the contact between Portuguese and the different ethnic lan-* guages. Creole (Guinean) is the result of this contact. Guinean Portuguese is a variety of Portuguese. Guinean Portuguese being a peculiar way of using Portuguese, where do the words that enrich it come from? It is a field research that consisted of collecting data through interviews with 16 Guineans. The interviews made it possible to identify loans belonging to the variety, partly lexical loans from Creole and also from native languages. The research concludes that the loans words occur because there is no equivalent word in Portuguese or because of identity issues. Many aspects of culture can be understood and interpreted through the language. It is important to value and recognize Guinea-Bissau Portuguese as a variety, as well as other varieties present in Portuguese-* -speaking countries, with the need to create a dictionary that will contribute to an education without prejudice.
