Abstract

SILVA, Hilton P.; REIS, Tânia Carlice dos  and  SILVA, Keily. Perspectivas sobre o enfrentamento da pandemia de Covid-19 em Cabo verde e no Brasil e o impacto das políticas públicas emergenciais. RILP [online]. 2022, vol.41, pp.59-76.  Epub Aug 30, 2022. ISSN 2182-4452.  https://doi.org/10.31492/2184-2043.rilp2022.41/pp.59-76.

In January of 2020 the World Health Organization (WHO) identified an international epidemiologic emergency caused by the SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2). This article presents some of the publicly available data about the situation of the COVID-19, analysis the official responses by the central governments in Cape Verde and Brazil, and discusses how the social and health policies conducted by each country reverberated in the epidemiologic impact along the first year of the pandemic, searching to exemplify how the different decisions about the conduction of public policies influence morbidity and mortality in these two countries. Despite the analytical limitations in face of a global crisis still in development, it is expected that this work will contribute to increase the comparative investigations among Lusophone countries of the South, and to demonstrate the importance of adequate public management to the conduction of this disease and of others who will emerge in the future.

Keywords : COVID-19; pandemic; health policies; vaccination; public policy.
