The “Imagined Communities” are part of a political project that invents traditions, discursivizes languages, formats individuals, identities and colonial knowledge. This work analyzes images produced on Portuguese Timor, in the light of studies on the sociology of images in dialogue with the analysis of statements present in colonial publications and documents, verifying the construction verb-visual of the Timorese colonial subject. It is noticed that language and image are part of the colonial device of power of the Portuguese colonial enterprise that reinforce colonial policies in Portugal in encouraging the “civilizing” cause and establishing a “need” or “benefit of civilization” with the colonial subjects, which characterizes a donation relationship. The dominant discourse erases marks of colonial violence and silences subordinated discourse, reinforcing the actions of colonial linguistic policies in favor of linguistic colonialism.
