Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing measures were significant to control the spread of the disease. However, social segregation and solitude have worsened, especially among the elderly. A review of the consequences of isolation and loneliness in the elderly was carried out and how healthcare should be prepared to be able to overcome this challenge. Here, the family doctor assumes an essential role, due to his proximity to the population.
