Abstract

ALVES, Ana Paula. “Anti Obesity” Effect of Raspberry Ketone: Myth or Fact‌. Nutrícias [online]. 2014, n.20, pp.12-13. ISSN 2182-7230.

Overweight is considered the fifth largest risk factor for death worldwide, accounting for 2.8 million adult deaths per year, and being on the rise in developing countries. Despite being reinforced the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to combat this epidemic, the demand for solutions that can contribute to weight loss continues to proliferate. The use of dietary supplements is an option increasingly sought to improve the body composition and / or to promoting weight reduction. In this sense, the main objective of the present work is to summarize studies that describe the efficacy and safety of the use of dietary supplements derived from raspberry ketone. The research conducted through Pubmed® and the definition of inclusion criteria resulted in the inclusion of 5 studies in this review. The analysis of the selected studies concluded that the supplement in question shows very promising results with respect to experiments in vivo and in vitro, however, about the effects of raspberry ketone in humans could not be completed, since the only study found limited to the use of a supplement whose composition contains raspberry ketone is therefore not possible to ensure that the effects listed should be effectively by ketone.

Keywords : Obesity; Dietary supplements; Raspberry ketone; Lipolysis; Metabolism.
