This article seeks to make an analytical effort to recover the concept of ontology in philosophy and anthropology in the first two decades of the 21st century. Our hypothesis is that this “ontological turn” in the human sciences, despite its internal variations, can be defined by an “anti-Narcissus” movement of obsessive search for a radical alterity. In the case of philosophy, it shows itself through the recognition of the status of reality of that which does not concern the human; in the case of anthropology, this recognition turns to non-Western concepts or forms of life. Finally, we seek to show how both disciplines seek to transform this access to otherness into a way of calling oneself (human being or Western concepts) in question. In philosophy, this other is imagined in the spaces indifferent to human or in the fictional teratological characters; in anthropology, it is about another form of life or other conceptual metaphysics.
