This study intends to frame Mozambican rap within a revolutionary perspective that uses the Portuguese language with “Mozambicanisms” as a vehicle for the construction of an identity discourse in young people with critical and creative thinking about Mozambican democracy. This allows for the (re)construction of a collective memory of experiences lived in a globalized world. This study springs from the debate about the place of the Portuguese and Bantu languages in the rap music produced in the country and its role as an identity framework for Mozambican culture in its relationship with collective memory. A content analysis of four songs by the Mozambican rapper Azagaia was carried out, using two categories of analysis: (1) Rap as a space of action promoting an alternative project of governance in Mozambique and (2) Rap as a vehicle of vocalization of collective memory about social injustice in Mozambique.
