Abstract

PIRES, Magna Natalia Marin; SILVA, Karina Alessandra Pessoa da  and  GOMES, Joice Caroline Sander Pierobon. Training of Elementary School Teachers’ in Mathematical Modeling. Sisyphus [online]. 2021, vol.9, n.2, pp.154-180.  Epub Sep 08, 2021. ISSN 2182-8474.  https://doi.org/10.25749/sis.21788.

This paper aims to discuss how a collaborative group of teachers from the Early Years of Elementary Education helps in the training in Mathematical Modeling of their participants. For this purpose, we present results of a research study developed in the scope of an extension project configured as a collaborative group. We draw on Mathematical Modeling as a pedagogical alternative and on the understanding of teacher training in a collaborative group based on three aspects: learning about, learning through and teaching by using Mathematical Modeling. Through the analysis of the dialogues and actions of nine teachers in the selected episodes, we built trees of association of ideas that revealed that the actions of developing, planning, analyzing and making suggestions together in a collaborative group help in the training of teachers in Mathematical Modeling.

Keywords : mathematics education; mathematical modeling; teacher training; elementary school; collaborative group.
