Abstract

MARTINS, Maria José D.; OLIVEIRA, Teresa  and  MARCHAO, Amélia. The Inclusion of Children and Youth in Vulnerable Situation. Sisyphus [online]. 2023, vol.11, n.2, pp.10-32.  Epub July 25, 2023. ISSN 2182-8474.  https://doi.org/10.25749/sis.28110.

Research reveals a close relationship between the condition of vulnerability of children/adolescents and a great probability of occurrence of situations of school failure, stigma, and social and school exclusion. Vulnerability is understood here as the fact that children are either involved in violence in the family or at school, as victims of abuse by the family or in the role of victims and/or aggressors in violence between peers. Thus, this article aims first to debate the social inclusion of vulnerable children presenting data from national and international reports as well as from research. In the second part it aims to debate aspects of school policy and teachers’ practices that can facilitate inclusion and promote resilience in these children to face adversities.

Keywords : inclusion; exclusion; vulnerability; children education.
