Abstract

GRANCHO, Nuno Cruz. António Coelho, a silversmith from Lisbon in the second half of the 17th century: the orders of D. Diogo de Sousa, archbishop of Évora (1671-1678). Cadernos do Arquivo Municipal [online]. 2017, vol.ser2, n.7, pp.59-80. ISSN 2183-2176.

The present study discloses the existence of António Coelho [Pinhão], a Lisbon silversmith in the second half of the 17th century, the author of the innumerable objects - civil and religious - ordered by Diogo de Sousa, Archbishop of Évora. The documents allow us to trace the individual and joint passages of the mediators, enabling a bigger proximity to the artistic questions. Between these, we point out the ordering processes, the typologies and even perceptions of taste of the mentioned archbishop, as referred by the correspondence between both of them.

Keywords : Évora; D. Diogo de Sousa; 17th Century; Silversmith; António Coelho.
