Abstract

FERNANDES, Joana  and  LOURENCO, Raquel. Cultural diversity and media in the european context: regulation, economy and speech. Media & Jornalismo [online]. 2017, vol.17, n.31, pp.73-84. ISSN 1645-5681.  https://doi.org/10.14195/2183-5462_31_5.

To reflect on the topics of diversity and media pluralism, it should be understood that cultural and media systems have the power to structure social identities. Therefore, this kind of acknowledgement should lead to a public awareness of these phenomena, in order to make the regulatory promises of a global and diversified culture possible. In each country, due to cultural, political and media differences, regulation and structural guidelines that lead to cultural diversity in the media are missing. In this text, we seek to establish a generic state of the art for this subject, and try to identify the regulatory and conceptual frameworks that may contribute to greater cultural diversity and pluralism in the media.

Keywords : Cultural Diversity; Pluralism; Media; Racism; Minorities.
