Abstract

ROCHA, Angelo Eduardo  and  ROCHA, Paula Melani. Applied research in Virtual Reality: possibilities and challenges of technology in Journalism production. Media & Jornalismo [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.38, pp.39-57.  Epub June 30, 2021. ISSN 1645-5681.  https://doi.org/10.14195/2183-5462_38_2.

The article discusses the use of technology in Virtual Reality (VR) in the production of journalistic content in audiovisual. The theoretical-methodological reflection involved experimental, applied, and experiential research, the micro-documentary format in Journalism, and immersive journalistic genres. To describe the process of production, assembly, and distribution of immersive journalistic pieces and applied research was carried out experimentally when producing four micro-documentaries in VR on family farming. Different resources were tested - framing, image and audio settings, journalistic techniques, and graphic elements - to construct the immersive narrative. The results show that the application of Virtual Reality requires thinking about new skills and knowledge in journalistic practice, applied both in the pre-production stage and in the construction and distribution.

Keywords : journalistic processes; applied research; technologic innovation; virtual reality; micro documentary.
