Abstract

BAPTISTA, Carla; FERREIRA, Allan Herison  and  FERREIRA, Ana Carolina T. C.. Hybridity and transmediality in the political communication of the Portuguese parties on Instagram and on television political journalism. Media & Jornalismo [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.38, pp.123-142.  Epub June 30, 2021. ISSN 1645-5681.  https://doi.org/10.14195/2183-5462_38_6.

This article focuses on the hybridism between political parties digital communication and audiovisual journalism. It proposes to relate the communicative activity in the Instagram social network of six Portuguese parties with parliamentary representation (PS, PSD, BE, PCP, CDS and Chega), and their respective leaders, with the journalistic coverage of their activity carried out by the three main TV news, respectively Jornal da Noite (SIC), Telejornal (RTP1), and Jornal das 8 (TVI). We analyzed the political and partisan communication in the social network and the news frameworks in television journalism, identifying patterns in the relationship between the two platforms. We explored the cross contamination between the textual and visual discourses of the various parties and the television news, highlighting the main rhetorical strategies activated in Instagram and the television narratives. The article aims to contribute to a better understanding of the communicative logics of the parties in a digital environment and to explicit the transformations in the coverage of politics by television newspapers, in hybrid media systems.

Keywords : instagram; television news; political communication; political journalism; hybrid media systems.
