Abstract

SEBASTIAO, Sónia Pedro  and  VIEGAS, Luís. Digital platforms as sources of information: the case of comunidade cultura e arte. Media & Jornalismo [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.38, pp.161-184.  Epub June 30, 2021. ISSN 1645-5681.  https://doi.org/10.14195/2183-5462_38_8.

Informational capitalism and technological ubiquity lead to an increase in information sources that create diversity of choices for the individual with a view to satisfying their needs and desires. This study focuses on the digital platform Comunidade Cultura e Arte, self-defined as a platform for the distribution and/or access to informative content. In this sense, direct observation and content analysis are carried out for all publications on the platform in January 2020, and a questionnaire is applied to its public (n = 1525), seeking to understand what motivates the use of this platform as a source of information. The results highlight elements of the content production and dissemination process, which contribute to the public’s experience, among others: the uniqueness of the editorial project, with a diversity of cultural and artistic contents, the presence on social media and language used.

Keywords : digital platforms; information sources; content production; case study.
