Abstract

GASPAR, Inês; RAMALHO, Renata  and  MUTEIA, Hélder. The foodwaste in Portugal: what is the role of the Nutritionist?. Acta Port Nutr [online]. 2017, n.11, pp.42-45. ISSN 2183-5985.  https://doi.org/10.21011/apn.2017.1107.

The world’s population is growing and is estimated to reach 8.9 billion people by 2050. To achieve a sustainable development in the European Union it is mandatory to change food systems, specifically the shock between two realities, one with excess of available food and another with food insecurity and hunger. One of the solutions to mitigate this reality is the reduction of food waste, and there are various projects that are being carried out in Portugal to fight this problem. In this study entities were interviewed, using a questionnaire composed by three questions with closed answers and five questions with open answers, with the objective of understanding how these entities combat food waste, as well as to know how they see the importance of the nutritionist in this process. The results showed that this health professional, for entities, can play an important role in the implementation of various projects to combat food waste in Portugal.
