Abstract

FARIA, Rita  and  SOUSA, Bruno. Food education in school environment and the figure of school nutritionist. Acta Port Nutr [online]. 2020, n.20, pp.20-25. ISSN 2183-5985.  https://doi.org/10.21011/apn.2020.2004.

Although a certain positive evolution, Portugal continues to be one of the European countries with the highest overweight (including obesity) prevalences. It is believed that the primary solution should pass through food education in schools, privileged spaces where the necessary conditions are gathered to the application of well-structured projects based on each community’s needs. In the last years, it has been observed an increased number of publications relative to portuguese interventions in food education in its various aspects and, mainly, through the direct work of Nutritionists. Throughout this review, these will be placed in evidence for presenting themselves as capable professionals who are up to the challenge, in school environment.

Keywords : Children; Food education; School environment; School Nutritionist; Health promotion.
