Abstract

REI, Mariana; RODRIGUES, Sara  and  MARQUES DA SILVA, Sofia. TRANSLATION AND CROSS-CULTURAL ADAPTATION OF THE KIDMED INDEX IN PORTUGUESE ADOLESCENTS. Acta Port Nutr [online]. 2022, n.28, pp.6-13.  Epub June 18, 2022. ISSN 2183-5985.  https://doi.org/10.21011/apn.2022.2802.

The KIDMED Index, a dietary index frequently used to assess adherence to the Mediterranean Dietary Pattern in children and adolescents, was not previously translated and cross-culturally adapted in Portugal. Therefore, after obtaining the Portuguese version of the KIDMED Index (resulting from a process of translation and back translation), in November 2019, the instrument was cross-culturally adapted with the participation of 33 adolescents, through the direct application of the KIDMED Index followed by semi-structured interviews. In view of all the information collected and analyzed, the questions of the KIDMED Index that caused problems of understanding and interpretation, were then reviewed and adapted in accordance. These changes were reviewed and validated by a panel of experts. At the end, it was possible to obtain a version of the KIDMED Index translated and adapted to the target population for which it is intended, without neglecting the technical rigor of the concepts that characterize Mediterranean Dietary Pattern.
