GERARDO, Marisa Martins  and  MACAN, Tamires Pavei. DETERMINANTS OF FOOD PREFERENCES AND FOOD SELECTIVITY IN CHILDREN. Acta Port Nutr [online]. 2022, n.31, pp.62-66.  Epub July 20, 2023. ISSN 2183-5985.  https://doi.org/10.21011/apn.2022.3110.

This narrative review aimed to determine the main factors influencing food preferences and choices, as well as the development of food selectivity, during childhood. Possible determinants presente from preconception to the end of food introduction were described, a period characterized as the most influential in the development of these preferences. The main factors responsible for the development of food preferences and food selectivity in children mentioned in this paper were: biological factors; the food introduction; parenting practices; psychological, social, cultural and economic factors and the influence of marketing. Intervention in these determinants merges with the prevention of bad eating habits and also with the promotion of health throughout the life cycle.

Keywords : Children; Food introduction; Food preferences; Innate preferences; Food selectivity.
