PIRES, Lucinda; FRADE, Inês; ALMEIDA, Anabela  e  MIGUEL, Susana. Head and neck cancer surgery: the specificity of care for pharingostoma and esophagostomy. Revista Onconews [online]. 2020, n.41, pp.26-31.  Epub 01-Dez-2020. ISSN 1646-7868.  https://doi.org/10.31877/on.2020.41.03.

Our aim is to describe the specific care for people with pharingostoma and esophagostoma, drivers of improving clinical practice and the quality of life of patients. Surgeries such as total laryngectomy instigate a huge physical, social and emotional impact on the person and family, whose consequences and possible complications are enhanced when accompanied by the confection of a pharingostoma and esophagostoma. The person with pharingostoma and esophagostoma requires differentiated care that includes the dressing, surveillance and specific care, not forgetting the care inherent to the respiratory ostomy, as well as all other dimensions of the person (psychological, social, cultural and spiritual). In view of all the surgical complexity, people with these specific types of stomas require specialized nursing interventions, based on evidence, to prevent complications and to improve their quality of life, thereby justifying the need for intervention by the entire multidisciplinary team.
