Abstract

MARCELINO, Ana  and  GANHAO, Marta. NURSING INTERVENTION BEFORE CYTOSTAT EXTRAVASATION - A CONTRIBUTION TO THE PREVENTION OF TISSUE INJURY. Revista Onconews [online]. 2022, n.45, e067.  Epub Dec 28, 2022. ISSN 1646-7868.  https://doi.org/10.31877/on.2022.45.03.

Currently, oncology treatments are increasingly complex, demanding more qualified nurses that are able to detect and act early in the event of extravasation with cytostatics, as well as to classify and document them in a systematic way.

Objective:

To analyze the nursing performance facing cytostatic extravasation and its contribution to the prevention of chemical burns.

Methodology:

Descriptive retrospective study, based on qualitative descriptive research, in the period 2017-2021, which included all users undergoing treatment with cytostatics.

Results:

The nursing performance allowed that 78.6% of these incidents did not develop chemical burns, and 66.7% recovered from this burn on the 7th day, without functional or sensory impairment at the site.

Conclusion:

Procedures and algorithms based on good practices provide safer care and prevent complications associated with extravasation that can be very complex for patients and compromise their quality of life. The CIPE® language allows a systematic, uniform registration and data collection.

Keywords : extravasation; cytostatic agentes; nursing care; international classification for nursing practice..
