RIBEIRO, Sandra Eugénia; SOUSA, Sara Inês Pinto; FERREIRA, Sara Alexandra Moutinho  and  LUIS, Michael Sapateiro. Approach to paraneoplastic hyperhidrosis in palliative care: integrative literature review. Revista Onconews [online]. 2023, n.47, e0166.  Epub Feb 01, 2024. Introduction:

Paraneoplastic hyperhidrosis presents as a challenge due to lack of consensus on its approach in palliative care. This article aims to review the scientific evidence on the approach to paraneoplastic hyperhidrosis in patients in palliative care. Methods: An integrative review was conducted by searching articles in MEDLINE/Pubmed®, Cochrane, DARE®, BMJ EBM®, NICE®, CMAJ® and Bandolier, using the MeSH terms “Sweating”, “Hyperhidrosis”, “Palliative Care”, and “Palliative Medicine”. Included studies were classified using the Oxford scale. Results: This review includes 13 articles on the therapeutic approach to paraneoplastic hyperhidrosis using the following interventions: thioridazine, thalidomide, olanzapine, gabapentin, cannabinoids, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. We obtained heterogeneous results and no robust evidence exists that unequivocally demonstrates one approach is more beneficial than another.

Conclusions:

The available evidence on the therapeutic approach to paraneoplastic hyperhidrosis in palliative care has low quality (Level of Evidence 4; Strength of Recommendation C).
