Resumen

SANTOS, M  y  ALMEIDA, A. EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE IN THE HEALTH OF CONSERVATORS-RESTORERS, CONCERNING EXPOSURE TO BACTERIA. RPSO [online]. 2019, vol.8, pp.S250-S261.  Epub 12-Jul-2021. ISSN 2183-8453.  https://doi.org/10.31252/rpso.23.11.2019.

Introduction and Objective:

The Conservation and Restoration sector has not yet been fully and comprehensively addressed by Occupational Health, so several knowledge gaps have been noted.

The authors aimed to summarize all the information on the topic.

Methodology:

A survey was conducted in February 2019, considering Scopus search engines; PubMed/ MedLine; Web of Science; Direct science; Academic Research Complete; CINALH; Summary and Review Database; Central Register of Controlled Trials; Cochrane Systematic Review Database; Nursing and Allied Health Collection; MedicLatina and RCAAP.

Content / Results and Discussion:

The subject of the literature in the context of microbiological risk in this sector, focuses on object and not on the professional. The microorganisms may be embedded in bioaerosols, dust, fibers or drops of liquid, entering the body via inhalation.

Bacterial growth is favored by moisture and by the presence of biofilm; in turn, attenuation arises if dust, animal excreta are cleaned and coating materials are chosen to attenuate nutrient sources.

Bactericidal methods may present health toxicity, which is very high with some agents used in fumigation.

Conclusions:

Harm associated with exposure to microorganisms has long been known. However, this is still very little studied in the context of Occupational Health and the risks of eventual contact with the bacteria are no exception. It will be pertinent that occupational teams emerged motivated to study this sector and bridge, completing in the international literature.

Palabras clave : conservation; restoration; conservator- restorer; occupational health; occupational medicine; bacteria.
