Abstract

ROQUE, A et al. OLD PROBLEMS, NEW CHALLENGES FOR THE OCCUPATIONAL DOCTOR: A CASE REPORT OF CUTANEOUS LARVA MIGRANS. RPSO [online]. 2021, vol.12, pp.178-182.  Epub Mar 25, 2022. ISSN 2183-8453.  https://doi.org/10.31252/rpso.25.12.2021.

Introduction

Cutaneous Larva Migrans is an infectious dermatosis caused by nematode parasites that accidentally infest humans. It is an endemic disease in tropical countries, and the diagnosis is uncommon in industrialized countries. The authors present a case report of an infected worker during a work trip to Brazil, aiming to alert workers who travel to work destinations with beaches and tropical climates about the risk of infestation by this larva and the respective preventive measures.

Clinical Case Report

The authors describe the case of a 32-year-old man, who had returned from a work trip to an endemic area, with typical serpiginous, pruritic lesions in the plantar region of his right foot. He had a favourable evolution with oral therapy with Albendazol. The authors review the epidemiology, clinical manifestations and therapeutic options.

Discussion/Conclusion

The increasing leisure travels, but especially for work, in the Portuguese context, to endemic areas, oblige the health professional, especially the Occupational Doctor, to be able to diagnose pathologies that will increasingly cease to be rarities.
