Resumen

DENICOL, Karina A.  y  BITTENCOURT, Paulo J. S.. THE LEGAL STATUS OF WOMAN IN ANCIENT MESOPOTAMIA: CODES OF UR-NAMMU AND HAMMURABI. Revista Internacional CONSINTER de Direito [online]. 2019, n.9, pp.73-90.  Epub 18-Dic-2019. ISSN 2183-6396.  https://doi.org/10.19135/revista.consinter.00009.03.

The present essay consists of a theoretical-methodological and historiographical reflection on the legal status of women in Ancient Mesopotamia, especially during the period of transition from the Third Dynasty of Ur to the rise of the Paleobianic Empire. Therefore, the analysis focuses on comparative research of compendia of Ur-Nammu and Hammurabi laws. The hypothesis proposed here is that the similarities and differences between these royal documents regarding the legal status of women can be adequately explained in light of their relations with the Mesopotamian worldview and the historical transformations that marked the transmission of goods within the family structure.

Palabras clave : Legal status of women; Collections of laws of Ur-Nammu and Hammurabi; Family structure; Forms of transmission of goods.
