Abstract

LIMA, Rogério Medeiros Garcia de  and  CAMARGOS, Laís Alves. NEOCONSERVING WAVE: A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY. Revista Internacional CONSINTER de Direito [online]. 2019, n.9, pp.463-484.  Epub Dec 18, 2019. ISSN 2183-6396.  https://doi.org/10.19135/revista.consinter.00009.25.

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the spread of neoconservatism around the world and its relation to threats to democracies. In order to do so, an analysis will be made of how the modern mass communication technologies have contributed to this, and also how the Brazilian elections of 2018 were affected by the digital transformation of life. Finally, it will be examined how the neoconservative wave can reach the Judiciary and what is the solution for the economic, political and social development of a country. For that, based on the deductive method, a theoretical research was carried out in the juridical-sociological field, focusing on the theory of democratic decline in the world of Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt as theoretical framework.

Keywords : Modern technologies; Democracy; Constitution; Neoconservatism; Threats to Democracy.
