This article deals with the real role of human rights today. The objective of the article is to analyze the theme, giving greater focus to the articulated vision of social commitments, requirements and dependencies. The research problem is: acting based on the ethical dimension, is building human rights with universal scope a tangible reality or an unreachable utopia? The method of approach adopted is the deductive, and the method of procedure used is the monographic. The main hypothesis answers the research problem in the affirmative. The conclusion is that the ethical notion that drives the human rights concept, whether used along with a notion of human dignity subdivided into two branches (basic and cultural dimensions), makes feasible to enlarge the effectiveness of practical actions and to recognize the human rights as a universal category.
