Abstract

COSTA, Maria Luísa. Cultural Routes: Heritage and Wayfinding Systems. Revista Convergências [online]. 2020, vol.13, n.26, pp.141-148.  Epub Nov 30, 2020. ISSN 2184-0180.  https://doi.org/10.53681/c1514225187514391s.26.47.

Finding the way is part of the ancestral needs of the human being, as can be understood from a brief look at the evolution of signage and the resources used by man to facilitate access to different places. Goals and methods differ, according to social and cultural needs and the means available in each era. Nowadays, promoting access to knowledge and enjoyment of the Heritage is a necessity arising from the processes of globalization and the determination to preserve a plural and diverse society. In this sense, promoting the dialogue between Material and Intangible Heritage through cultural routes, communicated through the design of wayfinding systems, is a requirement for the full understanding of both. Thus, this article addresses the issue of the evolution of signage, the concept of Heritage and the need to promote dialogue between the material and immaterial heritage, reflecting on the different forms of access to information in the context of wayfinding systems.

Keywords : design; heritage, signage, wayfinding systems.
