This article brings a historical approach about ethics in scientific research. The reflection proposed here appears as a brief survey of rich material collected and organized through the narrative review of the literature. For that, reference was made of books, articles and academic works. The objective was to build a timeline around the theme. In addition, it aimed to recover part of history and consolidation of ethical research, a fact that promotes a significant change in the values ​​and structure of the scientific work over the years. Nevertheless, it seeks to strengthen the importance of ethical conduct in the practice of scientific research in all areas of knowledge, with a special focus on the field of Brazilian design.
