This study aims to know the motivations that lead individuals to practice and not practice sports. The sample consisted of 186 individuals, of whom 100 were female and 86 were males aged between 18 and 35 years. The following were applied as instruments: the Motivation Questionnaire for Sports Activities - QMAD and the Motivation Survey for the Absence of Sports Activity - IMAAD. The results indicated that there are differences between sexes regarding the reasons for the practice and not practice sports. The most important reasons for the practice were “being in good physical condition”, “exercising” and “keeping fit” and the least important were “being known”, “having the feeling of being important” and “pretext to leave House”. The most important reasons for non-practice were “lack of sports habits”, “laziness” and “lack of interest, will”.
