Abstract

FERNANDES, Júlio Belo; SA, Maria Céu Lourenço  and  NABAIS, Ana Sofia Campos. Rehabilitation nurse interventions that prevent falls in the elderly: Scoping review. RPER [online]. 2020, vol.3, n.1, pp.57-63. ISSN 2184-965X.  https://doi.org/10.33194/rper.2020.v3.n1.7.5761.

Objective:

To identify the Nurse Specialist in Rehabilitation interventions that prevent the occurrence of falls in the elderly.

Methodology:

Two independent reviewers developed a scoping review protocol using the methodology proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute, using the CINAHL and MEDLINE databases, from the EBSCOhost Integrated Search platform.

Results:

The rehabilitation interventions that prevent the fall of the elderly are the multifactorial risk assessment, environmental change, exercises to develop muscle strength, body balance and the ability to walk, as well as the ability to perform basic and instrumental activities of daily living.

Conclusion:

The Nurse Specialist in Rehabilitation should carry out a global assessment of the elderly at risk of falling. According to the identified risk factors, rehabilitation interventions must be implemented that eliminate or reduce their influence.
