Abstract

RAPOSO, Pedro  and  SOUSA, Luís Manuel Mota. Intervention of the rehabilitation nurse in the dyspnea of the patient with COVID-19: Case report. RPER [online]. 2020, vol.3, suppl.1, pp.5-15.  Epub Jan 05, 2022. ISSN 2184-965X.  https://doi.org/10.33194/rper.2020.v3.s2.1.5773.

Introduction:

Coronavirus can be responsible for severe dyspnea. Rehabilitation nurses have the knowledge and specialized interventions to control and reduce dyspnea.

Objective:

To identify health outcomes from rehabilitation nursing care in the control and reduction of dyspnea by optimizing the ventilatory function of a patient with COVID-19.

Method:

Descriptive study of a case study prepared according to guidelines of CAse REport. It is presented a case of a patient with COVID-19 characterized by the presence of dyspnea and greater confinement to the bed due to isolation’s measure. The study highlights the nursing process using the “Padrão Documental dos Cuidados da Especialidade de Enfermagem de Reabilitação” adjusted to the recommendation of respiratory rehabilitation in the coronavirus by the Chinese Society of Rehabilitation Medicine.

Results:

After implementing 3 rehabilitation sessions, there were improvements in the reduction of dyspnea, increase in peripheral oxygen oximetry levels, decrease in muscle tension and improvement of respiratory rhythm, culminating in hospital discharges awaiting cure criteria.

Conclusion:

With the implementation of an individualized rehabilitation nursing care plan, it is possible to act in the control and reduction of dyspnea in patients with COVID-19.
