Introduction: in the hospital environment, working conditions and good interpersonal relationships are necessary for the proper fulfillment of activities and for a healthy organizational climate, which positively impacts the health of the worker. Objectives: to identify difficulties and potentialities related to the organizational climate of nursing staff at a public hospital in the DF. Methods: this is a descriptive, exploratory study of a qualitative nature, carried out with 46 nurses. Data collection took place from October 10 to November 30, 2021. Data were analyzed using Bardin's content analysis: pre-analysis, material exploration and treatment of results, inference and interpretation. Results: it was possible to find three cores of meaning that were divided into three categories and fourteen subcategories: 1 - environment and working conditions (Shortage of human resources; Scarcity of materials and inputs; Scrapped equipment; Inefficient maintenance services); 2 - communication, relationship and work routines (Communication; Leader/employee relationship; employee/employee relationship; Internal flows and work routines); 3 - potentialities visualized - motivation to improve the work environment (Human Resources replacement policy; Management of materials, supplies and equipment maintenance contract; Meeting routine; In-service training; Bringing management closer to the edge; Professional appreciation). Conclusions: shortage of human resources, supplies and materials and the precarious conditions of the equipment were identified as potential generators of dissatisfaction in the work environment. Harmonious and assertive communication was required as a skill to be developed by all categories, which implies the need for strategies to develop the theme among the teams. Management strategies were considered to face and change the identified scenario.
