Since the 1990s, there has been a significant increase in the Homeless Population (PSR) in the centers of large Brazilian cities. Main Goal: To understand the experiences of the elderly living on the streets about the main facts that marked their lives. Methods: This is a qualitative study in the modality of life history carried out from the report of elderly people living on the streets in a medium-sized city in the interior of São Paulo. Results: Eight elderly people were interviewed, seven males and one female. It was identified in relation to the age group that all the elderly interviewed were in their sixties, one being 62 years old; two 64-year-olds; two aged 65; one 67-year-old and two 68-year-old. From the narratives of the homeless elderly, it was possible to observe an existence of intense suffering that began in childhood. It was possible to capture essentially that their stories were marked by suffering, losses, rejection and mistreatment, absence of affective bonds, lack of family support, in addition to being permeated by the use of illicit drugs, abusive use of alcohol, incarceration, hospitalization in a psychiatric hospital and informal work. Conclusion: It appears the need to reduce the vulnerabilities to which they are exposed, as well as guarantee them a dignified life with future expectations through intersectoral public programs and policies in the health area, social assistance, housing, work and education, in order to combat exclusion processes and meet the real needs of this population.
