Abstract

Difficulties related to communication are the main causes of adverse events in the context of health care, which emphasizes the need for new strategies aimed at efficient communicability, especially in the nursing team. Objective: To know the perception of nurses in a surgical clinic regarding the standardization of the shift change. Method: Descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, carried out at the Surgical Clinic of a medium-sized Hospital of the State Public Network, located in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. Data collection took place through a semi-structured interviews, between April and June 2021, after respondents signing the Free and Informed Consent Form. For data encoding and information categorization, the NVivo® 12 Plus software was used. The substantive analysis of the results was carried out by the researchers using bardanian content analysis. Results: Seven professionals who work as assistants in the health unit, referred to as the empirical field of this essay, participated in the study. The categories showed: The importance of building a checklist to standardize the shift change; The difficulties encountered in the shift change and, Suggestions of items to compose a checklist for the shift change. Conclusion: The important role of nurses in the search for knowledge, in information management and in the possibility of effectively contributing to the construction of resources that expand patient safety strategies was evidenced. The study reveals the importance of qualitative studies to solve praxis problems in the health field, in addition to emphasizing the use of support software to support the analysis of qualitative data.
