OLIVEIRA, Ademara Aparecida de et al. Understanding of Elderly Women about Violence. NTQR [online]. 2023, vol.18, e877.  Epub 30-Nov-2023. ISSN 2184-7770.  https://doi.org/10.36367/ntqr.18.2023.e877.

Introduction: in the current context of the country, the more the population grows old, the more feminine it becomes, a phenomenon known as the feminization of the old age. In contrast to this higher life expectancy, studies indicate that, among the elderly, women are more dependent and suffer more violence than men. This fact stands out as sacred when considering gender in the theme of violence, given the inequality present in social relations between men and women. Violence against the elderly is a public health problem in our country, and Primary Health Care, for offering care to the majority, is an important source of data for the study. Goals: explore the understanding of elderly women about violence in this age group, seeking to develop violence prevention strategies for this part of the population. Methods: qualitative field research, based on the assumptions of Hermeneutics - Dialectics. Forty interviews were conducted with women over 60 years of age old, in four units that make up the Primary Health Care Network. The data obtained were analyzed in the light of Hermeneutics-Dialectics. Results: three analytical categories emerged: 1. Understanding of violence; 2. Vision of violence against elderly women; 3. Suggestions for actions to prevent violence against elderly women. Conclusions: it was possible to present the understanding of elderly women about violence against elderly women, in addition to apprehending suggestions to avoid such violation from their speeches. It is noteworthy that thematic violence against elderly women needs to gain more space in the field of research and dissemination of findings.
