Introduction: The Project for Improvement and Innovation in Care and Teaching in Obstetrics and Neonatology (ApiceOn) proposes to integrate teaching hospitals to Rede Cegonha, targets areas related to labor and birth, postpartum and post-abortion reproductive planning, care for women who are in a situation of sexual violence and abortion and legal abortion, through humanized practices and scientific evidence with the insertion of obstetric nurses and midwives, directly related to the learning of future professionals. Goals: analyze the ApiceOn project implementation process in a hospital institution and how the insertion of the nurse and the midwife. Methods: qualitative approach research, with 15 nurses through semi-structured interviews and data processing by Analysis thematic content. The knowledge and challenges of the ApiceOn Project were identified as a theme: the meaning, implementation, development and practice of nursing. Results: it is considered that the interviewees have incipient knowledge about the project, its implementation and development and there is no insertion of nurses and midwives in front of the project. The implementation process of the ApiceOn Project requires the constitution of co-management, since it requires the construction of new practices anchored in the health surveillance model, surpassing the biomedical model, therefore, the training logic of professionals is based on permanent education. Conclusions: there is a need to change the paradigm of health care and, consequently, the work process with pregnant women/pregnant women/families, through the implementation and training for the development of the ApiceOn project, using protocols for the performance of professionals and structural organization.
