EDITORIAL

A Welcome Message from the New Editorial Team

1 Division of Nephrology and Renal Transplantation, Department of Medicine, Centro Hospitalar Universitário Lisboa Norte, Lisbon, Portugal

The Portuguese Journal of Nephrology and Hypertension (PJNH) was first published in 1986, with Dr. Fernando Carrera as the first Editor-in-Chief. Fast forward thirty-six years, PJNH remains a quarterly publication, publishing about 40 to 50 articles every year, and is indexed in Web of Science’s SciELO Citation Index since 2012 and Directory of Open Access Journals since 2021.

The PJNH is the official organ of the Portuguese Society of Nephrology and, as such, is the ideal scientific platform wherein nephrology fellows and experienced nephrologists can share their research and broadcast Portuguese Nephrology worldwide. Therefore, we kindly request that you continue to actively contribute to the further growth of this publication, sharing your perspectives, reviews, original articles and challenging cases reports, to increase the number of published articles and thereby our visibility to the international scientific community.

We emphasize the amazing work of previous Editors-in-Chief, and we are committed ourselves to carry on the progress of this journal. In fact, the first edition of 2022 was published with great assistance from the previous editorial team, namely Dr. José Vinhas (Editor-in-Chief) and Dra Ana Azevedo (Executive Editor), to whom we express our gratitude for easing our acclimation to the editorial process and paving the road to our future success.

The current Editorial Board has been restructured to integrate Section Editors in order to assist in the peer-review system in our journal. We count on their dedication to aid in recruiting reviewers and to contribute with their expert opinion in a timely manner.

Another new addition to the editorial team is the Technical Editor who will assist in the Editorial Process, and aid in the innovation and advancement of the PJNH. We will continue to work with our publisher, Publicações Ciência & Vida, who contributes with determination to the timely publication of the articles according to indexing guidelines.

The Instructions for Authors are being carefully reviewed and updated in order to fulfill indexing guidelines, and we request that these be carefully read and followed prior to submitting your manuscripts.

This journal will include Editorials, Review Articles, Original Articles, Case Reports, Letters to the Editor, Nephropathology Quiz, Top Articles and Perspectives, thereby covering the full spectrum of nephrology. We count on world-renowned nephrologists to comment on review articles and perspectives and share their expertise based on their own clinical opinion. Considering that the PJNH is an English-language publication, we advise to carefully review English grammar and syntax in manuscripts before submission or using readily available proofreading platforms for the effect. The manuscript in its totality, including content, analysis, personal opinions and bibliographical accuracy, is the sole responsibility of the contributing authors.

This journal complies with the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals produced by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and requires that authors´ contributions be detailed in every manuscript.

Those who contributed but do not qualify for authorship should be listed in the acknowledgments. Keep in mind that ORCID identities of all authors must be submitted alongside manuscripts, which allows that every author’s work will be properly credited and referenced.

In response to ecological needs and costs, the PJNH will no longer have paper support, and the journal website will take on more importance. We aim to improve the visibility and sharing options of published articles and increase advertising opportunities.

One main goal is to submit our application to other indexing platforms and, in doing so, to expand the reach of our jornal abroad, namely to Brazil and Spain counting on the collaboration of our Associate Editors. We hope to make a final decision on all submitted papers within 8 weeks of submission, and request our tireless reviewers to assist in this challenging task, and express our acknowledgements in advance to these diligent colleagues. Regular editorial meetings allow us to evaluate the journal’s development and decide on further strategies to aid us in accomplishing our objectives for the PJNH.

Finally, we thank the Portuguese Society of Nephrology for entrusting us with this mission and for supporting our ideas, and hope to captivate the interest of nephrologists in publishing their research in the PJNH.
