The “Acta Radiológica Portuguesa” is the main scientific dissemination vehicle of the SPRMN. After thirty-four years of existence, it shows signs of youthfulness with more than thirty active papers under peer review. It represents the scientific voice of the national and international radiological community, which needs to be increasingly participatory in quantity and quality. Current times are guided by a wide variety of scientific journals, and the choice of the journal to publish an article must take into account the target audience. If we are national radiologists and radiologists from Portuguese-speaking countries, then this is our journal; this is our solar system. Our task is to “inhabit”, preserve and enrich our solar system.

The editorial team that ensured the journal's activity over the last six years and which now ceases to function had the unconditional support of the SPRMN boards and heartfelt thanks to the respective presidents, Prof. Filipe Caseiro Alves and Dr. António Madureira are due.

During these six years, several procedures were implemented which aimed at indexing the journal to the main scientific databases.

Instructions to authors and editorial policies have been reformulated to comply with ethical standards regulations and recommendations and with responsibility in scientific communication. We have controlled unethical practices such as double submission; redundant publication; inappropriate authorship; lack of disclosure of conflicts of interest and developed guidelines regarding informed consent and patient privacy.

The journal, without additional expenses, now has an online management system for the entire editorial process for the submission of articles and management of the entire editorial flow with automatic notifications to all those involved in the editorial flow. We have also managed to integrate the “Acta” in the RCAAP platform (Portuguese Open Access Scientific Repositories). All published articles became available in English; we obtained a DOI which became mandatory for all articles (which makes their citation possible) and the journal was integrated with the ORCID identifier service.

All these measures were crucial for the indexation achieved in 2020 to the SciELO database. Thus, our journal became part of the Web of Science, namely of the SciELO Citation Index collection of this platform.

Very important in the evaluation criteria for the indexing of a journal are the frequency of publication, the quality and constancy of its contents, the evaluation times of papers and a broader editorial team, which can only be achieved with the interest and motivation of the scientific community of National Radiology, not forgetting the Portuguese-speaking international community. It is time to thank the reviewers for their unselfish availability and the authors' interest in keeping the journal alive. We invite all radiologists interested in contributing as reviewers or authors to contact Acta Radiológica Portuguesa.

It has been a pleasure to serve the national radiological scientific community as Editors during the past six years, which we try to repay the best we can with the inherent sense of responsibility. We wish the new editorial team every success, for which everyone's involvement will be essential, both as authors and as reviewers.
