Dear colleagues and friends,

I present to you the new Editorial team of Acta Radiológica Portuguesa (ARP), which is now taking office. The editorial structure is made up of an Editor-in-Chief, Section Editors, and Associate Editors. This organization aims to facilitate and accelerate peer review work, including, whenever possible, a senior reviewer associated with the editorial board and a guest reviewer.

The challenges facing Acta Radiológica Portuguesa (ARP) today are complex and require our reflection. The scientific activity of Portuguese Radiologists and Radiology Residents is small or non-existent, overwhelmed by the constantly growing healthcare activity. Furthermore, the absence of mechanisms to support scientific activity in most of our departments is a transversal demotivating factor. This primarily affects national scientific production in our area of Medicine and the number of submissions made to the ARP. On the other hand, we must consider the global panorama of radiological publications, which is highly competitive these days. Scientific knowledge should be free and global, and any author, after completing a study that required personal and financial investment, will want to publish their work in a reputable journal that guarantees visibility and impact. For this, indexing in the largest databases is essential. I would like to highlight here the integration of ARP into the RCAAP platform, with articles in English and DOI, and especially the indexing in SciELO, the result of the enormous work of the Editorial Team that recently left office: Prof. Paulo Donato, Prof. Manuela França and Prof. Tiago Bilhim, with the tireless support of our secretariat in the person of Luísa Costa Cláudio. These indexing processes have already greatly increased the visibility of our publication, with relevant online traffic metrics and an important number of foreign submissions from the Portuguese-speaking world. We intend to continue this path, starting with DOAJ, for which the creation of this Editorial structure will contribute to the quality of the candidacy. Of course, indexing in PUBMED / MEDLINE is everyone's desire, but this step has important structural implications and its financial viability is currently being assessed.

In addition to facilitating the peer review process and promoting the visibility/impact of ARP, we want to encourage the Portuguese Radiological community to contribute their work, through innovative initiatives. These initiatives aim to promote the best publications, provide training and encourage collaboration in the peer review process, etc. They will be released shortly, as soon as their preparation is complete.

I hope that these news provide extra motivation for all of you, encouraging you to collaborate with our ARP. This is the scientific publication of Portuguese Radiology, let's give it the commitment it deserves!
