Existe evidência da associação entre a sua toma e a ocorrência de infeções genitais. Porém, a associação com infeções do trato urinário (ITU) não está bem estabelecida. Pretende-se analisar a evidência atual sobre a associação entre iSGLT2 em doentes com diabetes mellitus tipo 2 e a ocorrência de ITU.  Métodos: Pesquisadas normas de orientação clínica, meta-análises (MA), revisões sistemáticas e ensaios clínicos controlados e aleatorizados (ECCA) entre outubro de 2011 e outubro de 2021 na The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, The Cochrane Library e PubMed. Utilizados os termos MeSH &#8220;urinary tract infection&#8221;, &#8220;sodium-glucose transporter 2 inhibitors&#8221; e &#8220;diabetes mellitus, type 2&#8221;. Para atribuição dos níveis de evidência (NE) foi utilizada a escala Strength of Recommendation Taxonomy, da American Academy of Family Physicians.  Resultados:  Dos 331 resultados identificados, 6 cumpriram os critérios de inclusão: 5 ECCA e 1 MA. Todos classificados com NE 2. A evidência da associação entre a toma de iSGLT2 e ITU foi apenas demonstrada, de forma estatisticamente significativa, na MA e relativamente à dapagliflozina na dosagem de 10 mg.  Conclusão: Os estudos apresentam resultados heterogéneos, inconsistentes e de qualidade moderada. Os iSGLT2 têm afirmado o seu lugar no tratamento de múltiplas patologias pelo que impera a realização de estudos dirigidos à ocorrência de efeitos adversos como a frequência de ITU. Devem ainda compreender amostras de maior dimensão, diferentes moléculas e posologias, para a obtenção de evidência robusta.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction:  The mechanism of action of the sodium-glucose transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) is based on the increase of glycosuria. Current evidence shows an association between their intake and the occurrence of genital infections. However, the association with the occurrence of urinary tract infections (UTI) is not well established. We intend to analyze the evidence on the association between SGLT2i in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and the occurrence of UTI.  Methods:  The research comprised clinical guidelines, randomized controlled trials (RCT), meta-analysis (MA) and systematic reviews published in the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, Cochrane Library and PubMed databases between October 2011 and October 2021. MeSH terms used: "urinary tract infection", "sodium-glucose transporter 2 inhibitors" and "diabetes mellitus, type 2". The Strength of Recommendation Taxonomy scale of the American Academy of Family Physicians was used for assigning evidence levels.  Results:  Of the 331 results, 6 met the inclusion criteria: 5 RCT and 1 MA. All were classified with level 2 of evidence. Only the MA showed a statistically significant association between the increase in UTI with the use of dapagliflozin 10 mg.  Conclusion:  The studies show heterogenous, inconsistent and moderate quality results. SGLT2i have a major role in the treatment of many different pathologies, which is why it is imperative to carry out studies targeted to analyze the occurrence of UTI. These should comprise larger study samples, with analysis of different molecules and dosages that could contribute to a higher level of evidence.]]></p></abstract>
