Diversos são os fatores que podem influenciar, positiva ou negativamente, a qualidade e quantidade do sono, designadamente o exercício físico. Há estudos que referem que os bons hábitos de sono influenciam positivamente a realização de exercício físico e vice-versa.  Objetivo: Descrever a influência do exercício físico no sono em estudantes do ensino superior.  Métodos:  Realizou-se uma revisão integrativa da literatura, com pesquisa de artigos nas bases de dados PubMed, B-On e ScienceDirect, num espaço temporal entre agosto e outubro de 2020.  Resultados: Os resultados da maioria dos estudos analisados revelam que a prática de exercício físico influencia positivamente o sono dos estudantes do ensino superior, contudo, nem todos os estudos corroboram desta conclusão. Estudos apontam a existência de uma relação bidirecional.  Conclusão:  Face aos resultados encontrados, considera-se que mais investigações longitudinais são necessárias para explorar os mecanismos biológicos que modulam a interação dinâmica entre estas duas variáveis, o exercício físico e o sono, assim como é necessário capacitar os estudantes das instituições de ensino superior sobre a relação e importância destes fatores para o aumento da qualidade de vida geral.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction:  Sleep is an indicator of health and quality of life throughout the life cycle. There are several factors that can interfere, positively or negatively, the quality and quantity of sleep, in particular physical exercise. There are studies that report that sleep positively influence the performance of physical exercise and vice-versa.  Objetive: Describe the influence of physical exercise on sleep in higher education students.  Methods:  An integrative review of the literature was conducted, with research of articles in the PubMed, B-On and ScienceDirect databases, between august and october 2020.  Results:  The results of most studies analyzed reveal that the practice of physical exercise positively influences the sleep of higher education students, however, not all studies corroborate this conclusion. Studies indicate the existence of a bidirectional relationship.  Conclusion:  In view of the results found, it is considered that more longitudinal investigations are necessary to explore the biological mechanisms that modulate the dynamic interaction between these two variables, physical exercise and sleep, as well as it is necessary to empower students of higher education institutions on the relationship and importance of these factors to increase in the overall quality of life.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Introducción:  El sueño es un indicador de la salud y la calidad de vida a lo largo del ciclo vital. Hay varios factores que pueden influir, positiva o negativamente, en la calidad y la cantidad del sueño, a saber, el ejercicio físico. Hay estudios que afirman que los buenos hábitos de sueño influyen positivamente en la realización de ejercicio físico y viceversa.  Objetivo:  Describir la influencia del ejercicio físico en el sueño en los estudiantes de educación superior.  Métodos:  Se llevó a cabo una revisión integradora de la literatura, con investigación de artículos en las bases de datos PubMed, B-On y ScienceDirect, en un período de tiempo comprendido entre agosto y octubre de 2020.  Resultados:  Los resultados de la mayoría de los estudios analizados muestran que el ejercicio físico influye positivamente en el sueño de los estudiantes de enseñanza superior, sin embargo, no todos los estudios corroboran esta conclusión. Los estudios apuntan a la existencia de una relación bidireccional.  Conclusión:  Dados los resultados encontrados, se considera que se necesitan más investigaciones longitudinales para explorar los mecanismos biológicos que modulan la interacción dinámica entre estas dos variables, el ejercicio físico y el sueño, así como la necesidad de capacitar a los estudiantes de las instituciones de enseñanza superior acerca de la relación y la importancia de estos factores para aumentar la calidad de vida en general.]]></p></abstract>
