Métodos:  Foi utilizada amostra de 70 pacientes com Doença de Parkinson, submetidos a 217 procedimentos odontológicos do tipo invasivo. Informações sobre sexo, idade e procedimento odontológico foram recolhidos dos ficheiros clínicos existentes. A intensidade de dor de cada procedimento foi verificada por meio de Escala Numérica de Dor com valores de 0 a 10. Categorias de intensidade de dor também foram definidas. Para análise, a dor foi considerada de duas formas: dor do procedimento e dor média do paciente. A dor média do paciente foi a média de dor dos procedimentos aos quais o paciente foi submetido. Associações entre dor e sexo, idade e tipo de procedimento foram testadas através do teste Qui-quadrado.  Resultados:  Para a dor do procedimento foi encontrada média de 0,8 e a categoria dor ausente foi a mais frequente (68,7%); para o parâmetro dor média do paciente, a média foi 0,9 e a categoria dor leve foi a mais frequente (52,9%). Maior nível de dor foi relatado com maior frequência entre aqueles submetidos a anestesia e a exodontia, de forma estatisticamente significativa. Os pacientes do sexo feminino também relataram nível mais alto de dor com maior frequência, mas sem alcançar significância estatística.  Conclusões:  Os tratamentos odontológicos realizados nos pacientes com Doença de Parkinson foram, em sua maioria, indolores ou de dor leve e a intensidade de dor esteve associada ao tipo de procedimento odontológico.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Objectives:  To investigate the pain associated with dental treatment in patients with Parkinson&#8217;s disease.  Methods:  70 patients with Parkinson&#8217;s disease who underwent 217 invasive dental procedures were included. Sex, age, and dental procedure information were collected from the patient&#8217;s dental records. The intensity of pain was measured using a numerical pain scale with values ranging from 0 to 10. Pain intensity categories were also defined. For analysis, two types of pain were considered: procedure pain and mean patient pain. The mean patient pain was the mean pain from the procedures which the patient underwent. Associations between pain and sex, age, and type of procedure were tested using the chi-square test.  Results:  The mean procedure pain was 0.8, and the absent pain category was the most frequent (68.7%); the average mean patient pain was 0.9, and the mild pain category was the most frequent (52.9%). A higher level of pain was reported more frequently among those undergoing anesthesia and extraction, reaching statistical significance. Female patients also reported more frequently a higher level of pain, not reaching statistical significance.  Conclusions:  The dental treatments performed in patients with Parkinson&#8217;s disease were mostly painless or of mild pain, and the pain intensity was associated with the type of dental procedure.]]></p></abstract>
